The St Austell as it is on most maps, or White river as it's known locally is I beleive free for it's entire length, though I would appreciate any knowledge that proves otherwise.
Apparently there are no migratory fish but that doesn't quite link up with the size of some of the redds and a couple of local 2lbers.
Brown trout to 13inch can be had but the half dozen if you give it a day, with plenty of half-footers in between,
The river is called the White River for good reason, and when a spate flushes the china clay off the hills, it will colour up like milk of magnesia. once the river has fallen it runs beautifully clear and despite its industrial canalisation can be quite pretty with excellent wildlife.
